Temple University values and celebrates the accomplishments and dedication of our talented and inspiring faculty. Each year, Temple recognizes faculty who have distinguished themselves through teaching, research, creative excellence, and service through prominent honors, awards, professorships, and promotion in rank and tenure. Awards are bestowed at the university, college, and department levels.
University Faculty Awards
The Great Teacher Award is the university’s highest teaching honor. The Temple University community honors outstanding faculty members for their continuous excellence, accomplishments, and contributions to teaching. Recipients’ names are engraved on a Great Teachers Wall in the Founder’s Garden on Main Campus.
The Lindback Awards for Distinguished Teaching recognize academic excellence, outstanding teaching and exceptional achievements and accomplishments in teaching. Jointly funded by the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation of Philadelphia, awards honor faculty who epitomize the highest levels of sustained teaching distinction in the classroom, research laboratory or clinical setting.
Temple University Faculty Research and Creative Achievement Awards recognize outstanding research and creativity. Two research awards (The Paul W. Eberman Faculty Research Award and the Temple University Faculty Research Award) recognize a single research study or body of research work on a given topic considered a major contribution to one's field. The Faculty Award for Creative Achievement recognizes outstanding creative work in writing, the performing arts, and other disciplines, considered to have national and/or international significance.
The Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence in General Education recognizes faculty excellence in GenEd course development and teaching.
Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Instruction Awards recognize part-time faculty members for their high-quality pedagogy; efforts to evaluate, assess and improve one’s own teaching; and mentorship fostering academic and professional achievements of students. Up to three awards are given annually.
Faculty Senate Outstanding Faculty Service Awards recognize faculty who have performed outstanding service to their schools, colleges, and the university community.
The Temple University Alumni Association (TUAA) Stauffer Award for Distinguished Faculty Service was created in 1973 by the late Joan D. Wilson, CPH ‘39, widow of Dr. Herbert M. Stauffer, in honor of her late husband and his father, Dr. Milton F. Stauffer. The award recognizes outstanding faculty service that extends beyond the classroom and university community.
